I Dare You

Last night I crossed over my 1,000 cardio minute mark, and I'll be rolling over an extra 28 minutes to February. I have another 1,000 cardio minute goal for February, so the "headstart" is especially welcome in such a short month.

One of the fundamentals in goal-setting is to figure out how to make it fun. Challenging myself, daring myself to reach a certain mark or milestone is invigorating and rewarding. It doesn't matter if other, fitter, people achieve my monthly goals on a weekly basis. These goals are all stretches for me at this time, and chasing them is a great motivator. On the days when I just want to fall into bed when I get home, I remember the challenge and how good it feels to be successful. To win.

So, I'm planning for a February repeat--the two missing days be damned--and I will, of course, be rewarding myself. If I achieve 1,000 cardio minutes in February, I will win...a shiny new bicycle! Probably not the bicycle of my dreams (a leetle expensive), but one that will get me out and about this spring!

Anyone care to join me? Build a February challenge for yourself, one that will get you off the couch, or away from the potato chips, when you'd really just rather...not? A challenge that, once achieved, will have you anticipating the next one even before you've captured your reward for the first? C'mon, it'll be fun.

I dare you.

I double dog dare you. :-)

Hmmm. great idea! I like it!I am in..but unsure what goal to set..I have SO many. I was planning to walk 1,968 miles with my pedometer..but on day 2 it met it's demise. If I buy one tonight or tomorrow, I will set a milage goal! Thanks for the idea. Congrats on the 1000 minutes!!!!! What did you win this month?

Great post! I need to figure out what i can "realistically" do without setting myself up for failure. But count me in.

Well done! That's really wonderful! I'm also hesitant to commit at this stage, because I've been told that I'm overdoing it a bit and have to slow down.

Great idea... I will have to think about what kind of goal I can set.

Im so in! Exercise is my biggest downfall when it comes to trying to get healthy. I join gyms with the best intentions, but never go. So that being said, I pledge 600 cardio minutes this month. That's 4 30 minute workouts a week. If I can do that for this first month that will definitely be something! Thanks for the great motivation.

Susie, a mileage goal sounds great! At first I wondered why 1,968 miles, but I get it now. :) (I'm slow at math.LOL) Oh, and my reward this month was new makeup. I have a makeover scheduled at Sephora at 1:00 p.m .tomorrow!

GC, you've got the right idea. Realistic, but stretchy.

Hanlie, what about challenging yourself to do so many minutes of that Sudarshan Kriya this month. (I may check that out myself!)

Mary, I'm sure you can come up with something. There are so many elements that make up good health.

Chanda, yaaay! My first goal (about this time last year) was 5 30 minute workouts. What I like about your 4-workout goal is it leaves you room for makeup session if you miss a day (or two.*G*)

Great idea and you certainly have the right attitude to do it! For me, I have no idea how many cardio minutes I do in a given time because I never really counted them. But I do keep track in that I try to go longer on my elliptical. (still trying to build up my endurance) Plus I don't want to set a specific time goal each day because if my body gets used to it, I may plateau and I've got so much weight to lose, I have to avoid that possibility so my cardio must be switched up and changing constantly.

But kudos to you - I wish you all the best.
