Foods that Make You Feel Full?

Interesting article in Yahoo!Health today on foods that make you feel full. I could use some of that around this time of the month. According to the article, protein and fiber are the keys. Protein, because it takes longer to digest, and fiber because it absorbs water and expands in your stomach (like my stomach needs expanding--snerk!) The article goes on to give some examples, which seem sensible enough.

Only, I've been eating fiber and protein and I'm not noticing any of this promised "fullness." Oh sure, for an hour or so, but then...nada. I could eat again in a heartbeat.

I'll continue to aim for protein and fiber, because my body needs them, but I really don't think they're pulling their share of the load here.

When I eat oatmeal in the morning, I don't even realize it's lunch time. Thrown in with an apple or fruit and it definitely lasts longer than a biscuit or bagel.

It's okay to eat lots of mini-meals throughout the day. Filled with lean proteins and whole grains, your body will tap the energy and not convert it to fat stores. It's a balance of tricking the body without over saturating it with things that convert to fat stores in the body.

Great job this week.

usually I think its the type of protein or fiber you are eating, but sometimes I agree with you! thats why you want to pack as much as you can into a single meal. for ex I will have half a banana and some oatmeal..now that will keep you full for a long time vs some egg whites and strawberries (Which are also both very good for you, but I dont think fill you up for long).

Egg white omelet and Better Than Bacon on an English muffin keeps me going for hours - same with lentils and rice, so I agree about protein and fiber.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!
