March - National Nutrition Month and a Minor Rant
Who knew? I certainly didn't, but I saw it on SparkPeople, so it must be true. The folks there have a 31-day calendar with nutritional tips available for download.
In other important news, I am apparently officially out of plus sizes. This is good news, on one hand, but on the other, it's more than a little daunting. When you shop the plus size, or Women's area of the department stores, you basically have one little corner of the floor devoted to clothes that fit you. It's usually sandwiched between Petites and Maternity, which is always good for the self-esteem. There are acres of "misses" sizes, but just because you can fit in them doesn't mean they look good. Of course, that was
Note to women's pants manufacturers: We're not all the same shape! Some of us are straight, some of us curvy, and some round. We don't all have big butts and thighs! Sure, some of us do, and we deserve clothes that fit properly, but so do those of us with no butt and thighs, but lingering belly fat! Sheesh!
::cue violins:: All I wanted was a pair of jeans to wear on the weekend. I must've tried on twenty pairs of jeans. Nothing! Even The Right Fit Jeans (yellow 1) at Lane Bryant don't fit. And they promised!
Please don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled I've been so successful; to be wearing these sizes was my intent all along. But it's really frustrating, especially when your friends say, "You should get more clothes that fit." Like I'm not trying.
Okay, enough of that. The sun is shining, birds are singing, it's 65 degrees already, and I'm indoors. One of those things is about to change. :)
Have a lovely Sunday, everyone!
Edited to add: Thanks to all who provided recipes in my tuna post. You've definitely given me some great possibilities!

You have hit the nail on the (choose one: butt, thigh, calf).
I've had relative success with the Kim Rogers Signature slacks at Belk stores. They have four different cuts based on your basic shape and height.
And here's a good idea for finding jeans that fit BEFORE you go shopping.
I feel your pain.
I feel your pain!
Here's a tip for the future - when you find a brand that fits, you can *probably* keep wearing them as you continue to shrink ... or at least that's my experience I find that generally the same brands/cuts tend to fit when I'm a size 14 and a size 6, because I'm a pear no matter what size I am.
The many different cuts that are supposedly the same size, and the variation of sizing across manufacturers ... it's enough to drive anyone insane.
I feel your pain. In another month I'm going to be taking on the role of an office manager at my work. Which means I wont be able to wear scrubs all the time, which means I've got to go shopping! I don't want to. I'm not ready. It's so dishearting. I understand what your going through!!
Wow, that is a wonderful victory! Pity that you're struggling to find the right clothes. You'll find the brands that work for your body. I had the same problem when I was at a normal weight with an hourglass figure. My boobs were too big and my hips too wide for my waist, so clothes were just never right...
I remember some time ago, Oprah had Stacy London doing a segment on jeans and fit. I remember they were all pretty pricey but, they spoke about what was best for each figure type.
I wonder if you go find it at her site? I HATE buying pants. Most designers seem to make them for tall women with long legs. They never fit quite right.
Good luck--you may have to try on 20 more (and then some ;) )!!
Yep... I can also feel your pain. I love shopping for tops (except when in asia as they don’t seem to have boobs over here)... but when it comes to shopping for trousers (esp Jeans) I start to hyperventilate. I’ve been blessed with thunder thighs, a big bum, short legs and small(ish) waist.
I agree with the others though.... once you find a brand that suits your body size you will be ok, you just have to persevere and find that brand. Then you can stick with it as the KG/pounds come off.
Try taking a good friend with you for moral support! If all else fails, do what I do - wear skirts!
Oh I sooooooo hear you on the pants shopping. I just wrote about the same thing. Someone suggested skirts and right now, I think that's a pretty good idea too.
HEAR HEAR! On the rant about women not being the same shape to fit in jeans! I'm one of those people that are frustrated with the search for the perfect "jeans"...whatever that means. My legs are small and I carry the majority of my weight in my stomach, so in order for me to fit my legs I have to suffocate my stomach and if I dont want to suffocate, my legs are swimming in the pant legs! It's sad that maternity pants fit me so much better! Keep up the good work on your weightloss success!
I am so happy for you for getting out of the plus sizes! its a bit scary and hard, but definitely wonderful feeling. I know I also struggle with finding things to wear with my new shape and size. I get those same things from people all day about how I need to find clothes that fit. well its hard!
congrats to being out of the plus sizes....sooo exciting :)
enjoy
Oh, there is a website (I will try to find it) where you send your measurements in to get the clothes that fit you correctly. Let me go look...be back.

Clothing sizing SUCKS...I don't know who sets these, but I'd be willing to bet they don't have to shop for or wear them.
It is awesome that you are out of plus sizes, though it does make things harder when you have to re-learn what fits...you get used to shopping at a certain place or in a certain size range and when that comfort zone is taken away it makes things very difficult. :-(
But you are doing great and this, too, is a sign of success. :-)
Have a wonderful week!
Valerie
I agree that getting clothes to fit is a daunting experience. You are doing great on your plan and I imagine soon enough you will be truly rewarded with a pair of "skinny" jeans.
Keep up the good work!
