A Day in the Life
Before I forget, Felicia had asked about where we live, and I finally found a picture of my house:
My house is a traditional sort of house, dining room on the left, living room on the right, master bedroom on the far right. There are two more bedrooms, a den, and the kitchen & laundry room on the back half of the house. It's L-shaped, with a driveway long the left side leading to a garage in the very back. I've lived here about 5 years, and I like the neighborhood. It's only a few miles from work and from an interstate connector. I can be in downtown Memphis in about 15 minutes. It's a good place to live.
So, gorgeous day today in Memphis, if a bit cool. One of those Saturdays that was extraordinarily ordinary. I like those.
For the play-by-play:
4:30 a.m. - Woke up. No, no, it's SAT-urday! Arrgggh! Wide awake. Since I had Things To Do this morning, I got up and managed to get a few of them done before I left the house at...
6:00 a.m. - Read the newspaper to Wally, an elderly man (a former neighbor), who has macular degeneration and can't see well enough to read. About eight years ago we started meeting for breakfast every morning, during which time I read the sports page and other assorted articles to him from the paper. He's a life-long Chicago Cubs fan, so the summers can be quite long. :)
7:30 a.m. - Hit the gym for 30 minutes of elliptical and then went to McD's for a yummy strawberry yogurt parfait.
8:30 a.m. - Cleared living room staging area of all boxes destined for my father's Men's Club rummage sale. Did one last tour of the house for anything else to add to the pile and amazed myself by finding quite a few more things to donate. It's starting to look simpler around here.
11:00 a.m. - Target. Picked up a gift card for my sister's birthday gift. She's moving, and I thought she might prefer a gift card for any of those "new home" things she might want to buy.
11:30 a.m. - Subway. Turkey sub on whole wheat, fat free chips. Then home again.
12:50 p.m. - Nap. Ahhhh. A whole hour.
1:50 p.m. - Piddling around time. Read a few blogs, began getting ready to head out to an early dinner for my sister's birthday. My dad has major acid reflux and has to eat pretty early.
4:00 p.m. - Family dinner. A very early dinner. We went to Leonard's Barbecue Restaurant, a Memphis mainstay. I had the brilliant idea to order the Deep South Salad, a plain old salad with barbecued pork loin on it, with the meat on the side. About 200 calories of deliciousness! I can't ever imagine ordering anything else but this from now on.
5:30 p.m. - Reebok Outlet Store. I bought four new workout t-shirts. All of my shirts hang on me, and I thought the snugger fit on the new ones would provide a definite reminder to keep that "navel into spine" during my workout.
6:00 p.m. - Home. Shoes off. Bra soon to follow. Blog time. :)
So I'm nosy. How did you spend your Saturday?

Me and the little guy went on a good walk to the store for a few things. Then came home and ate lunch followed by playing outside for a bit.
After a nap for him, computer time for me, some cleaning, and cooking, a friend and her son came to play the Wii.
After we thoroughly exhausted ourselves, it's time to settle in for the night and be lazy.
Lovely house! I particularly like the tall trees.
I never left my house yesterday... Spent a lot of time researching and writing. Also without a bra!
Went to the gym after I woke up around 11 am, Got a pedi, came home to KFC for dinner! (I had a salad and some chicken breast) and then watched movies till bed.
9am-Rolled out of bed (thankful for sleeping in); made 10 grain pancakes for hubby and I, put apples in mine though.
10am-hubby and a friend went off to the toy (guitar) store and i got some clothes on went and worked out, showered, tanned, and went to target as well.
2pm-Put the second coat of paint on my cedar chest that I am working on. O and I had some lunch!
3pm-Wasted a bunch of time reading random peoples blogs and doing various other things on the internet.
7pm-11:30pm-Hubby left with friend again to go see band play. Drank two cups of coffee and tackeled our cluttered office...organized files...made about 50 trips from one room to another putting things where they belong (now if only hubby will keep it that way).
I too have suddenly found all my workout t-shirts a little too big, and have been contemplated buying a few new ones. That little bit of tightness might feel nice. :)
I... hiked a mountain, caught up on some blogs, made a big life decision (to stay in Korea for another 5 months), took a couple of students out to lunch, finished a book, and did a few more things on my to-do list before my internet at home stopped working.
Let's see... I got up around 7 and read blogs and whatnot while hubby went to get a new driver's license. When he got home around 9:30, we went to City View park and walked around and played with Daughter for a few hours.
Then we got gas in the car, hit the Target for a shoe rack, some clothes for the child (stop growing, you wretched creature!), and then to McDonald's (gasp! But we'd planned it, it was our weekly 'splurge'.) where I got the southwest salad. YUM!
Then home, and we played warcraft for most of the rest of the day. I took a nap from 5:30 - 6:30 or so, and spent the rest of the day Sans Bra. (Who invented those wretched things anyway? Can we kill him?)
I played outside and did some work around the yard.
The old fat Trish hated doing things like that...the new and improved, and slightly-less-fat Trish can't get enough of being outside, and wants to do crazy things like plant flowers and stuff!
Beautiful post AND home! FYI, one of the other journalists on our Lousisiana Culinary Trails media tour was Jennifer Biggs, food editor for Memphis Commercial Appeal.
love the look into your life. great post.
7:30-got up with son, changed a very disgusting diaper, put some toys in crib and went back to bed for half hour.
8:00-Got breakfast for son and daughter. DH in bed. Junk cereal for kids, shredded wheat for me.
8-12 do dishes, veg on computer since I have bad cramps. Take shower
1-5 meet w/ study buddy. Wasted to much time.
5-6 Grocery shop
6-8 micro meals for kids, left over lentil soup for me, play time for us, baths and bed time. (That's too much in 2 hours)
8-12 Talk to friend on phone for hour, watch big give, mess around on computer. (with bra on)
12:06 Bed time (Bra off)
Selma
I was running all day Saturday. First taekwondo, then the mall, then dinner out with hubby, oldest son, daughter, and daughter's boyfriend, and then back to the mall to pick up the youngest son. Didn't get home and settle down until about 7:00pm. Spent the rest of the evening on the couch watching DVDs of a comedian we like. I was exhausted! Have a great new week!
Pretty house! Sounds like you had a fabulous day! I won't bore you with the details of mine; I've posted about it if you want to read it but you know I can't say anything in five words if I can make it fit in fifty. :-)
