Healthy You Challenge - Week 29

Welcome to Pout Fest 2008! Actually, I think the festival ended last night because I wasn't pouting at the end of the day, but during the day yesterday? Pouting, in abundance!

1) Doctor did NOT change the blood pressure medication. "Not this time." With medication, my BP was 130/88, which is the high end of the normal range, so I know he's right, but still. I'm disappointed.

2) The doctor also wanted to take a 'wait and see' approach to my sports injury bad posture injury. I think that's because after only a couple days of trying to sit with my legs uncrossed, I can sense a definite improvement. Sigh. So close...

(For those who don't know me, I am seriously kidding about being disappointed with NOT having an injury. I will be quite happy if it's this simple to fix!)

3) I lost an entire half-pound (or so) this week! I'm certain it would have been lots and lots more if not for Mother Nature. I could've possibly lost an entire pound if not for the gifts of being a girl. Oh well, we'll get that other half pound next week, right? Right.

4) It was 98 degrees at 11:00 yesterday morning! The temps got into the 100s at some point and were still hovering near there at 7:00 last night. And yet, people are out walking, running, biking--and not a water bottle in sight. I swear, some folks looked like they were staggering. Me? I sweated it out with Trainer Kevin (he who thinks lunge-lunge-squat is fun!) in the hot-ish studio and then headed home.

I know I had other things to report on, but they completely escape me now. This heat saps my brain....

Hope you all had a great week and are off to a great start this week!

~

Stay cool. Half a pound is still a half a pound. It's in the right direction and that what counts. Cammy, it isn't a race. If it was, I would be losing as slow as I lose weight.

Better than a half pound gain :)

Congrats on the half pound. WooHoo!

You gotta move to the mountains with me. It was only 82 here yesterday. And usually by night fall it's dropped to 70 or the high 60's. But I didn't look yesterday evening.

I always find your posts humorous...hehe not that you might have a "sports injury" but how you relay it to the rest of us.

I thought of you today when I read an article in the paper about pedicures. In Virginia, they are using fish known as "doctor fish" that eat the dried, scaly stuff on your feet. I found the article online at another newspaper, thought you might like it. http://www.kansascity.com/450/story/713430.html

I have a name for those folks. Crazy.

Hang in there with the PB meds. It will happen - you'll be able to go off of them at some point. I just know it!

I'm glad you're not pouting any more. You've come too far not to feel proud as hell of all you've accomplished!

Pout Fest...funny.
You'd think in heat like that you'd be schvitzing off the pounds.
Trainer Kevin sounds like a barrel of not-fun :)

Yeah it's really hot here too (Mississippi). And I agree with Lillian, half pound is still something. And Hey! Let's do what Deborah said, move to the mountains, I'm game, how about you?

For a pouter you've got an awfully cheerful disposition at present! Hope that the medical business gets better soon:)

hope the weather is cooler. good for you for heading to the studio to exercise anyway.
Thanks also for the posture reminders. it'd be more exciting if my back hurt from some exotic reason, but the truth is it's just chronic bad posture.

Gotta love the summer heat waves right! I have to do my outdoor activities at the crack of dawn or dusk, otherwise it's too hot.

A little more time and the doctor will clear you on all your troubles-takes time. And congrats on the loss, every little bit counts!

It's about like that here too, by midday. Ya done good losing half a pound with "the gifts of being a girl". I know I can gain 3 or 5 pounds literally overnight with that. Aside from that - I hardly know ya but I'm proud that you're trying to improve your health and get off medication!

With your pout and my whine, we're like a summer camp for 2-year-olds, aren't we? :-) But hey, we are TOTALLY entitled.

You know, the BP issue is probably entirely white-coat hypertension too...with as much weight as you've lost and as active as you are, it's probably perfect until you step into the doc's office and get excited about maybe getting off the meds, at which point it promptly shoots up...frustrating. And disappointing. Has he suggested that you take it regularly at home and keep a log to show him when you go in? Worth a shot maybe anyway.

I do hope it's "only" the posture that has you hurting. That is, as you said, easier to fix.

I am very proud of your half-pound, and it seems Mother Nature is spreading her bounty everywhere in Blogland. She's a bit of a witch sometimes, ain't she? Still, you're doing so great...

And hopefully it's going to cool down some. Even if it doesn't, I know for a fact you're not one of the waterless idiots courting heat-stroke, so that's good at least.

Hang in there, I hope that today is much much better!

V.

Dang doctors. I know how you feel though. I'm been trying to get off at least one of my BP meds and so far no go. I did read somewhere that it can take up to a year for BP to go down so I'm not giving up.

The other thing is that sometimes, no matter what you do (exercise, lose weight, lower sodium, etc) you are just stuck with the BP number. My grandmother is like that. A small bit of a woman, but has high level BP.

Wow, that heat sounds awful. I'm sure the humidity makes it worse, too. Poor thing! The only good thing about the heat is that maybe all the sweating will help you lose some water weight? Sweat out all the impurities?

Hey, I'm trying to stay on the positive side, here. :)

I hope you guys get a cooling cycle sometime soon. Hang in there.

Plenty to pout about, ugh. But hey, take that half a pound and dance it out the window. Hurray!

As for the high temps, ugh. I feel your pain. Sweat, sweat, sweat.
