What Up?

What up?I heard an older man greet a friend with that this morning: What up? I hope I’m that hip (and cute) when I get to be that age.

Lacking anything useful to report, I thought I’d take a moment or two to share my answer to a few What ups?

What are you wearing? The at-home uniform: jeans, red henley, sneakers.

What did you have for breakfast? Yogurt & strawberries. Normally I have two breakfasts, one at around 6 a.m. and another around 9:00 a.m., but I got a late start this morning and didn’t have my yogurt until almost 9. So it looks like a lighter breakfast today. I’m sure I’ll make it up later in the day. :)

What are you doing for exercise today? This morning, I’m doing about 30 minutes on the stationary bike. Then, because we have sunshine and warmer temps (50s!), I’m going to walk down to Subway for lunch and to Kroger next door for some cameo apples (on sale $0.99/lb.). After that, some yard work. Yesterday, I used my teensy reciprocating saw to cut up a neighbor’s fallen tree limb, a victim of our recent ice stormlette. All that cutting and hauling gave me a nice 30-minute workout, which I followed with a brief stint on the stationary bike.

What are you listening to? Birds. A troop of robins is on worm patrol in my backyard. Awesome!

What are you reading? Kimberly asked me that, in response to my Lent-esque intentions. I’m actually reading two books (I do that a lot): Joining the Thin Club: Tips for Toning Your Mind after You’ve Trimmed Your Body, which I’m mostly skimming. I’m not connecting with the writers, and so far, I haven’t seen anything new. I don’t mind revisiting past lessons–in fact, I often benefit greatly from it–if they’re presented in interesting or entertaining ways. See: Martha Beck…or the other book I’m reading, which is How To Play the Harmonica: and Other Life Lessons. I don’t even have a harmonica, but it doesn’t really matter. This is a book about unleashing the playful self to promote a happier life. As you probably know, playfulness is not a problem for me, which is possibly why I’m enjoying this book so much. It’s laugh-out-loud funny. I like laughing.

What are you doing this weekend?I’ll spend some time working on my 40 items, and possibly some time outdoors (clouds are returning), but beyond that, it’s a wide-open weekend. Ahhhh….

What are you regretting from the week behind you? I’m kind of regretting that Free Cell “sacrifice”. Just kidding. I felt I was playing it too much, but didn’t realize how very much! I keep catching myself going for the icon. :) Other than that, the only potential regret I have is signing up to be part of the neighborhood security patrol at last night’s neighborhood meeting. I don’t have to do anything except ride around the neighborhood and call the police if I see anything suspicious, but I just know some serial killer will choose my day to run rampant through our ‘burb. I’m not sure the magnetic ‘Security Patrol’ signs on my car door and the flashing yellow light on top of the car (the only reason I agreed to do it in the first place) are going to be much of a deterrent. Especially since my shift will be during the daytime, when the light won’t be particularly noticeable.

And that’s what’s going on with me! I hope you all have a most wonderful weekend, but before I go, it’s my turn to ask YOU: What up?

  1. Cammy on Patrol! I regret that you cannot perform a citizen's arrest.

Robins….I miss that sound and can't wait for it to arrive here SOOOON.

And I heard my partner (who's about 60) use the phrase "my bad." *groan*

  2. Captain Cammy reporting for duty, Sir. I can just hear it now. I'd do the same thing for a magnetic sign and a yellow flashing light. I've tried using my flashlight with a yellow filter, it just isn't the same. :)

What up? Nuttin, honey. Temps down, sun's down, and snow is comin' down. So it is What down, around these parts. :( Oh poor me.

  3. My life is so boring you would not believe it! But I know that boring can be good sometimes.

So far today I have been to the gym (for my weekly workout with my mom and a trainer), the grocery store (apples on sale here too), and the library. I am still in my exercise clothes because I plan to hop on the elliptical after lunch (which is soup from the freezer). No sun or birds here.

I am so impressed that your neighborhood does that!

  4. Thanks for letting me know what you are reading. I am reading In Praise of Slowness by Carl Honore, The Ultimate Happiness Prescription by Deepak Chopra, Necropolis by Anthony Horowitz and I just finished rereading The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill. I am going to see and hear LH read on Saturday night with my son.

I have been at home sick the past few days, but feel a bit better today. I am jumping back on the good food wagon since I feel like such crap when I am the crap food wagon.

    Good luck on patrol!

  5. Today, not a lot. Lunch with Mum. Maybe I'll tackle a patch of her garden, depends how hot it gets. I'm thinking about all the things I need to do before we leave for 3 weeks in the South Island to spend time with our sons. A little more than 48 hours and I'm a last thing packer!
    Have a lovely weekend

  6. Way to go signing up for the neighborhood patrol! What up here? Trying to maintain my sanity with three kids home from school for three weeks. Today, I did the treadmill and Jillian's Shred. Then we were off to Costco, where I ate the whole turkey wrap for lunch, even though I meant to only eat half! :)

  7. The Free Cell thing cracks me up! LOL I never got into that one but I used to really like solitaire quite a bit. Very addictive. :)

The security patrol thing sounds interesting. Not sure if it would be my bag though. Kudos for you to take that on.

I don't have a whole going on. Just glad it's the weekend and I'm planning on not working at all this weekend. Going to hit the gym in the morning and let the weekend slide by lazily for once. :)

  8. sounds like you had an interesting week – stay away from those serial killers :) i have been in most of the week with snowy weather – but i enjoyed it anyway.

  9. i love wide open weekends. love that you signed up for the flashing lights! maybe if it's cloudy they will be more noticeable :)

  10. Hehe, I like this post. I think you will be totally cute and hip.

This weekend I'm just catching up on my blog reading and working out a couple times.

  12. I loved what you were listening to!

What up for me: I have to take my WNTW (what not to wear) mind & buy a dress for my youngest daughter's wedding coming up April 1st. I don't buy clothes for myself so this has been tough but I need to get it done & not look like something out of the 80's!

Have a great one & knock that serial killer senseless with your muscles!

  13. I'm looking for some fun weight loss blogs to follow! LOL about your patrol duty.

  14. I love it a flashing yellow light that is delightful!!

What am I wearing: sweats and a t-shirt.

What was for breakfast: Kashi's Cinnamon Harvest and skim milk.

What Exr: HipHop Abs by Beachbody, 1 hours worth, it is really fun and silly.

Listening to: Leonard Chohen's "I'm your man"

Reading: "The Art of Living: Vipassana Meditation" by William Hart and "The Empty Ocean" by Richard Ellis (the latter is too depressing to read every night so I have to alternate).

    Weekend plan: Studying and cooking.

Regrets: That I missed a workout, tsk tsk.

  15. Well you know that I had my disappointing dinner, but other than that we just had a normal, slightly boring, slightly busy weekend!

I was glad it was warmer, but now it's raining and the cold is coming back!

  16. Nothin' … what up with you?

    Wearing: B's bathrobe and slippers
Breakfast: Just coffee so far but will have hard boiled egg soon.
Exercise: Hitting the gym hard after taking it easy last week due to eye injury.
    Listening to: Olympic recaps.
Reading: Stumbling on Happiness and The Complete Beck Diet for Life.
Weekend: Went snowmobiling!!! YAY!!! We need snow!!!
Regrets: Being a klutz and smashing my face.

I think I'll hit up the bookstore after the gym and check out "How to Play the Harmonica." Sounds fun.

    Have a great week!

  17. Well, this post made me laugh, not for its content but because it reminded me of something. Since I've recently married, I can't call in and say, "Something came up and I'm going to be late." Just doesn't work!!!
