I have nothing truly worthwhile to share today. It’s a holiday weekend here in the U.S., and I’m trying my hardest not to have any useful thoughts all weekend. It’s surprisingly easy.
We’ve reached that time of year in the Mid-South, when the weather forecasts look like this:
What happens is that the sun shines brightly all day, heating up the atmosphere quite nicely, and then–BOOM! Afternoon thundershowers move in, it rains like crazy for a short time, and then we’re left with steamy asphalt for certain procrastinating types to deal with to get in their daily exercise.
That’s not what happened yesterday, though, because by the time I finished 2-1/2 hours of yard work, I didn’t have any strength left. Also, I looked like Patty Pigpen, because I decided yesterday was the day to pull up some old stumps (which I did, ALL BY MYSELF!) and I was covered head to toe in dirt, dust, and grass clippings. I must’ve burned off an extra 100 calories laughing at myself when I passed the mirror, which was good because I had a few hundred (thousand?) extra calories to use up. Read on to find out why.
I had seen Gigi’s Cupcakes written up in the local paper, but I’d never been, of course. (Of course!) Well, when I stopped at the garden center yesterday, I happened to notice that Gigi’s was only a block away. I decided it was Destiny at work, and I dropped in to check them out.
Oh. My. Lord. I’m certain the Gigi’s display case is what Heaven looks like, only with George Clooney serving up the treats. Shirtless. And pointing to a sign that says, “Reminder: Heaven is Calorie Free.”
After drooling all over their counter (there wasn’t a sign that said I couldn’t), I chose the Italian Cream cupcake. In a word? Divine. In a bunch of words? The Splurge to End All Splurges. There was as much frosting as there was cupcake, which is just the way I like them. I’m pretty sure my Weekly Brownie just became a Semi-Monthly Cupcake. If that causes a waistband problem, I’ll drop it back to a Monthly Cupcake. (Plan B is adding 100 hours of cardio to my weekly exercise schedule.)
So anyway, that’s why the extra strenuous yard work yesterday. I had also hoped to get in a recreational bike ride, but since I’d already showered, post-yard work, I decided enough was enough. Plus, the rains came and the steamy asphalt didn’t look inviting. Instead, I had yummy taco salad for dinner, and then super sweet dreams.
See? I told you it was random.
