Friday, Fabulous Friday

Have you ever woken up and known from the moment your feet hit the floor that it was going to be a stupendous, magnificent, overwhelmingly amazing day?

Yeah, neither have I.

Hah! Just kidding. I’m having one of those “something wonderful will happen” mornings. Possibly because our relentless, oppressive heatwave seems to have broken, or maybe because it’s Friday and even though I’m unemployed, 30 years in the workforce have me in the TGIF habit. Or maybe it’s just my nature to expect good things. Who knows why I have such high hopes for the day; I’m just going to keep my eyes open so I don’t miss it when it happens.

So much to share, so little time….

First of all, congratulations are in order to new reader Janet, who won the I’m With Fatty book giveaway! Janet, I’ll be contacting you via email so we can exchange mailing particulars. Thanks to everyone who read the review and/or entered the giveaway.

Next up, another teensy bit of housekeeping. A huge thank you to all who offered advice on cottage cheese, food scales, and the other questions I had. I’ve found a no-added-sodium, 1% brand (Friendship Dairies) that I’ll probably try, using some of your suggestions. Several people mentioned Greek yogurt as an alternative. I should have mentioned that the cottage cheese query was my search for an alternative to the yogurt, which I eat every day. Just looking for some variety. :)

Okay, now to the meat of the post, which involves clearing my reader of interesting-to-me articles I’ve seen recently. I think you might enjoy them:

From one of my all-time favorite blogs, Dumb Little Man:
Five Surefire Ways to Strengthen Your Willpower, and
How to Keep Your Cool: 12 Steps to Staying Calm Under Pressure

Both are great posts, but if you only have time for one, I highly recommend the second one. Not only does it offer fantastic advice on managing snack-inducing stress, it introduced me to one of my new favorite quotes:

“You are the sky. Everything else – it’s just the weather.” Pema Chodron

Tip Junkie had a timely-for-me post:
How to Store Herbs and Avoid Mold Pity I didn’t have it before I froze my cilantro.

From via Yahoo, a comparison of a breakfast staple or evening snack food, depending:
Supermarket Standoff: Healthy Cereals

and last, but not least, a new-to-me link for exercise videos that look really good for folks just getting started (and others who might want to do a form check:
Mayo Clinic Fitness Videos

Speaking of fitness, someone here should map out her workout o’the day and get into some sweatin’ clothes!

Hope you all have a most marvelous weekend! Be on the lookout for something wonderful to happen!

  1. Even though I work on Fridays, I still get the TGIF thing. When I used to have Fridays off, I still felt the same way. Go figure.

Have a super weekend – and I hope something does come up wonderful for you 😀

  2. My husband and I bought a huge bag of quinoa at Costco some months back. That large size was cheaper than the tiny bag at the grocery store! But I haven’t tried to make anything with it yet. I am soooo not talented in the kitchen.

I have not worked in years. I have a hard time remembering what day of the week it is!

  3. After the teeth thing yesterday, it can only go up from there! :-) AND, I am on the lookout!!!!

Love that quote too.. thx for that & the links!

Have a wonderful one!!! Great post!

  4. The best thing about this post (for me) is “Be on the lookout for something wonderful to happen!” Wouldn’t it be great to adopt that as a daily lifestyle? The Little Engine That Could is chuggin up the steep hill, seriously on the lookout for something wonderful!

Hope something extra wonderful happens in your day, Cammy…

Now I’m off to read Dumb Little Man. Thanks for the links.

  5. I’ve been off for the summer for the most part and I still think TGIF… hope you have an amazing weekend!

  6. Something wonderful did happen, I have a book heading my way, courtesy of Cammy! Thank you! I am so inspired by your positiive outlook, I can’t wait to read more of your blog!

  7. I snorted when I read your comment about “too bad you didn’t read it before you froze your cilantro!” You make me laugh. I hope your weekend is fabulous.

  8. Great post (as usual!). Thanks. I so hear you about how the coming of good weather can color your perception of the day. I LOVE good weather. My favorite was the Willpower link. Sort of a paradigm shift from how most people think about willpower and weight loss. It really makes sense. Thanks. Hope you weekend is fabulous.

  9. I’m a blogger and I just found your site looking through my Woman’s Day mag! I’ll definitely be checking out the site regularly and congrats on your decision to be healthy in little ways every day;)

  10. I say that being featured in a national magazine makes for a pretty darn good week! Who knows what’s around the corner for you?

  11. This Friday was particularly TGI-worthy. Something to do with a long week at the office and a ridiculous, stress-filled blowout between the owner and head of production. Needless to say, 5 pm was a very welcome guest!

Thanks for those links. I’m definitely going to use that herb ice cube trick! I’m constantly losing the battle of trying to use up the fresh herbs before they wilt/die.

  12. Thanks for your comment on my blog, it’s always great to find a new blog! Your before and afters are amazing, but I always say that the improvement in how you feel is so much better than in how you look!

  13. Yay healthy links! Fun-ness.

Here’s hoping the fabulousness carries over to today’s Monday :)
