Weekend Recap

Another weekend has flown by, and all I have to show for it is a tattered nutritional plan and a steely determination to have a 100% “on plan” week. (Or maybe 97%. I have a party to attend Thursday night.)(Okay, 95%–but that’s it!)

Actually, it was a wonderful, if caloric, weekend that kicked off with a Friday morning coffee meet-up with handsome blogger types. (No, I didn’t think to get any photos, but at least I remembered to wear my pants!) Hmm, now that I think about it, that was the highlight for Friday as the rest of the day was spent doing yard work and housework. *yawn*

Saturday morning got off to an extra early start. I had to be downtown at 7:00 a.m., looking perky, and I was feeling a teensy bit grumbly about it. But who can be grumbly when one of these pops into view?

A double rainbow!

My photography skills being what they are, you may have trouble spotting the second rainbow. It’s very faint and starts near the top of the tree. But it was there! The cool thing is that it also appeared on the other side of the rainbow, too, and that end landed right on top of my gym. (Note to Universe: Received your message and am headed back to the gym tomorrow! Thx!)

My destination on Saturday was BarCamp Memphis, a social media/entrepreneurial type “un-conference”. I helped with set-up and clean-up, and spent the hours in between sitting in a couple of sessions and hanging out with folks in the “bloghaus” community room. I also spent too much time nibbling on cookies and snacky mini-candies.

By early afternoon, I was feeling jangly from all the sugar and a need to MOVE, and when I peeked out and saw the rain letting up, I took off for a walk.

First destination was a walk along the river bluff:

That’s the Mississippi River on the right and some really expensive homes on the left. Actress Cybil Sheperd has a house somewhere along the bluff. Or she did. Maybe she moved, I dunno. She wasn’t on the path on Saturday. I didn’t see a single person while on the Bluffwalk. Maybe they were all inside figuring out how to pay their mortgages. Too bad, because they missed this lovely vista:

Feeling sort of lonely for company, I headed east toward Beale Street, Home of the Blues:

Beale St, Memphis

It was too early to be crowded, so I enjoyed strolling and shopping and people-watching for a while. Usually, you’ll find some…interesting folks along the way, but I guess they were all home contemplating their mortgages too.

So I walked over to the Forum, home of the Memphis Grizzlies, which was preparing for a visit from the Boston Celtics that evening.

The Grizzlies were very gracious hosts; they let the Celtics win 116-110 in OT. Southern hospitality, at it’s finest.

After a quick look at Gibson Guitar Factory…

…it was back to Beale St., where this sign…

…reminded me that I was supposed to be walking off cookies, not sight-seeing, so after the obligatory stop by this statue…

…I meandered down through the South Main Arts District and back to the BarCamp venue for the wrap-up and clean up.

All in all, a very lovely Saturday, despite the clouds and calories.

Today was sunny and mild, with only a carb-and-grease-loaded family dinner to get through. It wasn’t pretty, but it’s past. At this point, I have only two social-type things for this week, and for both of those I should be able to stay on or close to plan. That, plus getting back to the gym (I’ve been sticking with outdoor exercise in the mild and sunny weather), will have me feeling back on track within the week! Whew!

What do you have planned this week?

  1. My plan for the week is to just be prepared…Preparing and sticking to the plan…One foot in front of the other…

  2. Thank you for the virtual tour around town. I love looking at photos like that and have got to get to Memphis at some point in my life. I’ve heard so many great things about the people there (as well as the food!) Glad you had a great day.

  3. Fun post, Cammy! Reminded me I need to make a road trip to Memphis. It’s been awhile! I’m not familiar with the bluff walk and will have to check it out. My favorite place is Riverwalk on Mud Island. Makes me think I’ve traveled the entire Mississippi River! LOL!

I’m looking forward to a “me” week. Mr. B has something every single night including Friday and Saturday, so I’m own my on and can live like a single woman. Sometimes, that’s just plain fun. If I can get an appointment, I’m starting with a massage today!

  4. Oh, Cammy, loved the pics!!!!!!!!!! And so much fun! I am with Miz – you got to meet JS!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for letting the Celtics win. I was born in Boston!

I have no doubt you will get back to business with your workouts & healthy eats!

Maybe I will celebrate my bday all week.. notice the 53 by my name now! 😉

  5. Oh I am envious of the cool things you get to look at on your walks! I have nothing social planned this week. Next week… eek. One son’s bday, the other son’s homecoming, and of course, the big meal day. Sigh.

  6. what a great location you live in – love the “trail” and then the city area too! This week – we have family (my sister and her family) coming into town and I can hardly wait!

  7. Love the Bluffwalk. Not familiar with that. It is quite lovely. I’m sure Cybil would have joined you on the walk, had she know you were out and about. :) Love the obligatory Elvis photo op….that way we are sure it’s Memphis. Sounds to me like you may have walked off at least 1/2 a cookie.

  8. One of my favorite memories of Memphis is sitting outside at a bar on Beale Street watching people. Somewhere, I have some kick ass photos of the people that day. My other memory? The paddleboat ride…..I think it was 100 degrees and 100% humidity. The most miserable boat ride I’ve ever been on! Memorable though.

Thanks for reminding me of good times in Memphis, Cammy.

  9. OMG, Cammy you have no idea how much you are making me miss Memphis right now. Like, hardcore. I love all the Memphis social media events too… I miss going! And you met up with bloggers! Ah, my homesickness grows!!

  10. What a great walk, Cammie! Thanks for giving us a tour. I still have a couple of days off and am planning to continue creating (working on several quilts) and of course, the gym, and walking, and ugh, cleaning. The cleaning never ends. Oh yeah, I have a couple of lunches planned with two different friends. Really looking forward to that.

  11. Maybe next time you go to the gym there’ll be a pot of gold in your locker. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to find at the end of the rainbow?

  12. What a beautiful part of the world you live in, Cammy.
Photos are lovely! By the way, you are in my latest post, Cammy. Just thought I’d let you know. :)

My week ahead – more writing, making costumes for end of school year events, a workout or two, more writing, some gift shopping and a morning tea with friends (it’s already Wednesday here and yes, the week is flying by!)

  13. By the way, the post I mentioned in my comment above is not the one that commentluv has linked to!
Don’t know why it did that, but anyhow there is another post after that one, called Downtown In The Blogosphere…
