Out With The Old

Happy New Year Banner

A fly-by post this morning to wish you all a safe and happy New Year’s weekend!

I’ll probably be snoozing when the calendar rolls forward, but I’ll be celebrating before and after in my own special way.

For the past few years, my observance of this momentous event is to get in a good workout on New Year’s Eve afternoon and then turn around and do it again first thing New Year’s Day. I think of it as a set of Exercise Parentheses around the year. No matter what else happens during the year, I feel good knowing that I started and ended my year with exercise!

Unfortunately, due to The Great Christmas Cookie Extravaganza of 2010, I will be bypassing any major splurges. Or, I don’t know, I might get wild and not measure my peanut butter or toss an unrestricted number of walnuts on my yogurt. But that might be too much excitement for one weekend, even New Year’s. Maybe I’ll just have an extra pear. :)

However you celebrate (or not), I hope you’ll have a wonderful New Year’s weekend. Be safe and be happy!

  1. This post made me laugh. And I’m with you. I’ll be sleeping tonight at midnight, and I’m not indulging in anything. I indulged in enough over Christmas. At this point, I just want to do what’s good for my body. Happy New Year!!

  2. Hi Cammy. BIG Happy New Year to you and your family. For the first time in years, we are staying home for New Year’s Eve, which means I’ll likely be fast asleep at midnight myself. I look forward to your posts and comments in the New Year!!

  3. I love your exercise parentheses–I’m stealing it 😉 It was a balmy 45 here in Windsor (although it will be dropping to freezing during the weekend!) I went for a long walk outside and will be doing the same tomorrow!

Have an excellent 2011. I’ll “read” you next year!

  4. I love that exercise routine you have! I will have to do the same. Today I did go to the gym and had a great workout, tomorrow I will do something cardio!

    Happy New Year!

  5. I’ve been rather absent in a world that’s provided me with much support…so I apologize – and I come to bid you a very happy New Year!

  6. Happy New Year Cammy! As usual. I fell asleep but woke up at 12:01 to give my hubby a kiss! You know you are old when this happens & you have had enough sleep to wake up TODAY, January 1, 2011 & do an early morn run.. which I did! Usually a day off for me but rain expected here tomorrow morn on my normal day so I switched & a great way to start the new year!

  7. My post did not read so letting you know I have my Saturday Funny up… been having trouble with that commluv lately… but I keep resetting my URL… they can’t get rid of me! 😉

  8. Cammy, thanks for your support. Did my heart good to have several comments on my post from some of you who used to comment frequently….back when I used to blog frequently. I’m happy to be back. And I’m happy to see you are doing well and that your blog is still full of that Cammy humor! Here’s to 2011!

  9. I giggled all day that I planned to party like it was 1999…and in 1999 I stayed in.
that said I greeted today well rested :)

  10. I love your workout idea. I sat down today and realized that I will be 30 years old in 280 days. I also realized that I weighed 258LBS. My goal is to lose 58LBS by the day I turn 30..

  11. Happy New Year, Cammy!

Whatever you devote your energy and time to this year, I know you will be successful. I want to grow up to be like you.

  12. The great Christmas cookie extravaganza happened down here too!— well, not exactly, it was more like a wings and beer extravaganza and it did not happen till yesterday afternoon. But alas… I did get in the work-out on New Year morning. And ran 8 miles New Year’s eve morning- so I got the parentheses thing going too!!

Running a thousand miles in 2011!!! Starting with a half marathon next Saturday.

Thanks Cammy! It has been a pleasure getting to know you this year! I will give you a call when I am up that way!!

Isn’t it wonderful when we have improved our health to such an extent that things like not measuring nuts becomes an exciting splurge? :)

Last year, the boyfriend and I fell asleep by 10pm on New Year’s Eve. So this year we watched two movies in order to stay up til midnight. We looked out the window to watch fireworks in the distance, and we fell asleep by about 12:15. Hehe. I used to like going to parties on New Years – but I turned down every invitation this year. Sometimes it’s nice to just stay at home!
