Danger Girls Do Lunch

It was supposed to be an innocent little blogger meet-up. I’d spend a couple hours with Diana (Scale Junkie) and Natalia (Embracing the Weight Loss), enjoying lively chatter and a nice meal in a pleasant setting. What could possibly go wrong with a plan like that?

Surprise al fresco dining

We had just finished our meal and were having yet another laugh when the wall of the restaurant…well, it exploded! Right before my very eyes! Apparently, a woman attempting to park her car hit the gas instead of the brakes and punched through the wall. If you ask me, she had to hit it pretty darned hard to get the car up over the curb and across a 3-foot sidewalk.

We were about 20 feet away but the debris landed only a foot or so from an occupied table. No one was hurt, thanks be, but the folks sitting in that area were shaken up. Even sitting 20 feet away, I was so shaken up that I wandered off and left my wallet and credit card on the table. Eagle-eyed Natalia picked them up for me so they didn’t disappear in all the milling about. (Thanks, Natalia!)

As we were settling the bill, the fire department arrived and we wandered outside to check out the firemen exterior damage.

Unbelievable! You read about these things happening, but you don’t expect to be there when they do. It will definitely influence my future decisions about where to sit in restaurants. :)

While I felt bad for the people sitting closest to the collision site, I couldn’t help but feel sympathy for the woman driving the car (who was also unhurt). Wouldn’t you hate to explain this when you got home?

wrecked Mercedes

Yep, that’s a Mercedes. She drove it away, but it’s going to be in the shop for a very long time, I suspect.

Despite all the drama, I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with Diana and Natalia again. These two women are beautiful and fuunny and smart and authentic…sighI miss them already. If you ever have the opportunity to meet them, DO IT. (You may want to choose the restaurant yourself though. :) )

Now I’m off to meet up with my parents again and learn where they’ve decided we should go next. I’m hoping it’s still along the coast somewhere, but who knows….

Wishing you all a happy weekend!

  1. Oh my goodness! How frightening! I’m so glad no one was hurt but my heart rate would be sky-high for hours. Meeting bloggers is such fun, isn’t it? I look forward to doing more of it!

  2. That is a MEMORABLE meet up for sure.. And I JUST have to say, as I was reading this, the news in the background showed a picture of a silver car that drove into a house! Oh..those ironic coincidences blow me away every time!

  3. Oh my goodness, that is crazy! I would have been so embarrassed if I was that woman. At least you all are safe AND it will be a memorable meet up to talk about for years to come.

  4. Holy crow! Good thing no one was hurt. Amazing how little damage that car sustained plowing through a wall.

  5. Wow, what a story. Those thing sure dont happen everyday. Glad no one was hurt. Makes for a good blog post though!

  6. You have got to be kidding!! (I know you’re not because of all the photographic evidence!)
Your trips are never, ever boring, that’s for sure.

  7. Even after I left I still felt dazed. My head was throbbing for hours too. I’m glad you got a picture of the car, with all of my shots, I didn’t managed to get one and yes it had very little damage considering it just plowed through a wall. When I was pulling out of the parking lot, I saw the car sitting over on the side, I thought she had left but I guess the police were still talking to her, she was cited with careless driving (hmmm you think?), I still think it was that woman in that long dress and it was just someone else moving the car for her the news article said she was in her late 60’s the person moving the car looked younger (unless she has a good plastic surgeon?)

I will request center of the restaurant seats from now on or walls that aren’t adjacent to parking…but really that side lot, I would have never thought…I guess it just shows you that you never know whats going to happen but hey at least it was a MEMORABLE visit!

Nat and I are already conspiring on how we can top this visit…it won’t be easy thats for sure!

  8. Cammy! It was such a great time! :) I was thinking the next time you visit we could try coffee and bungee jumping, at the same time! That should be exciting and well, uh, maybe a bit messy too!

I miss you too! The visit wasn’t long enough and I’m thinking day at a condo, for your next visit would be lovely!!! :)

  9. Humph. That’s what the guy said who rammed my car so hard that he pushed me into the car 6 feet away, so my car was damaged on both sides!

Hey, I loved the description of your boat ride and I am jealous that you got to pet such a cool looking alligator. I really like alligators.

  10. I am having a blast taking this parental trip through Florida with you. I’m taking my MIL on a 3-day adventure to Asheville next week, so will certainly appreciate having your adventures to chuckle about as I make some of my own. My plan doesn’t include alligators or snakes. BTW, I’ve seen the “snake” lady in St. Augustine and feel strongly that she should be banned from the historic district! I’m not sure I’d want to travel with YOU – it appears to be dangerous! LOL!

  11. HOLY sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cammy, thank god all of you & the others in there are OK! I see this too often on the news here in southern CA & the outcome is not as good.

So, a great story for old age rocking chair & so glad you friends are well. So, what did the parents say when you told them about the excitement???

  12. Wow! That’s some scary sh*t!!! I am so glad none of you were hurt and no one else for that matter. Just adding a little excitement to your supposedly relaxing weekend. :-)

  13. So does that mean that any plans for dessert were interrupted??? lol

Glad you are OK. Years ago, my inlaws had someone (two drunk teens) crash into the bedroom right beside theirs during the middle of the night – not a great way to awake from dreamland.

  14. Wow! That must’ve been so surreal! Like, while it’s happening and you’re right there, it’s still hard to believe. I’m so glad you and the other bloggers (and no one else) weren’t hurt.

BTW, I think it’s so great that you were able to meet a couple of fellow bloggers while traveling. I’d love the chance to do that. And in spite of the impromptu drive-through, it sounds like you girls had a great time, good meal and lots of laughs. :-)
