Exciting news in Cereal World as yet another box of crunchy goodness makes its debut in stores this month! What a relief, because we just didn’t have enough varieties to choose from, right?
The new kid on the block is Fiber One 80 Calories Honey Squares, and thanks to some kindly PR folks, I was able to take it for a test crunch this week. To be honest, I almost politely declined their request, because a) the original Fiber One cereal didn’t do a lot for me (sorry, FO guys!), and b) I still have most of the last box of cereal I reviewed. (Not that it’s not good, but when you eat 1/2 cup of it a week, it lasts. And lasts and lasts.)
What piqued my curiosity about this cereal wasn’t the ’80 calories’ concept, but the 40% daily fiber value. Y’all know I love my fiber! And given the results of my one (thank heavens!) colonoscopy, I’m always on the lookout for more ways to add fiber into my diet. While fruits and veggies are my preferred choice, a little variety is good, too. Especially if it doesn’t have to be cooked, sliced, or peeled.
I’m not one to eat cereal as a meal, so my testing was for the snackability of Fiber One 80 Calories Honey Squares. Official results after the initial sampling: tasty (think: honey-corn crunch puff) AND filling! Very filling. For me, cereal snackage sometimes begets more cereal snackage (you might have experienced this), but in this case, the recommended 3/4-cup serving was puh-lenty. And then some. As a snack for yours truly, I’ll be sticking to the 1/4-cup serving, either on its own or decorating the top of some yogurt for a “sundae”. Mmmmm…
For me, this is a cereal that will stay in the rotation. I’m glad I agreed to test it!
The Fiber One PR folks have put together a prize pack for one lucky reader. It consists of a box of Fiber One 80 Calories Honey Squares, a sensor pedometer with USB connector to chart your walking progress, and a neoprene iPod holder with arm strap.
All you have to do to enter is let me know in the comments that you’d like to enter. I know, I’m too easy. I’ll keep the comments open until Saturday, June 18th at midnight and then draw a name.
If you don’t want to wait that long, Fiber One has some coupons on their website.
FTC: I received the same prize pack described above; however, it was offered and accepted with the understanding/expectation that any review would reflect my honest opinions about the product. And it did.
