Review/Giveaway: Fiber One 80 Calories Honey Squares

Exciting news in Cereal World as yet another box of crunchy goodness makes its debut in stores this month! What a relief, because we just didn’t have enough varieties to choose from, right? :)

The new kid on the block is Fiber One 80 Calories Honey Squares, and thanks to some kindly PR folks, I was able to take it for a test crunch this week. To be honest, I almost politely declined their request, because a) the original Fiber One cereal didn’t do a lot for me (sorry, FO guys!), and b) I still have most of the last box of cereal I reviewed. (Not that it’s not good, but when you eat 1/2 cup of it a week, it lasts. And lasts and lasts.)

What piqued my curiosity about this cereal wasn’t the ’80 calories’ concept, but the 40% daily fiber value. Y’all know I love my fiber! And given the results of my one (thank heavens!) colonoscopy, I’m always on the lookout for more ways to add fiber into my diet. While fruits and veggies are my preferred choice, a little variety is good, too. Especially if it doesn’t have to be cooked, sliced, or peeled. :)

I’m not one to eat cereal as a meal, so my testing was for the snackability of Fiber One 80 Calories Honey Squares. Official results after the initial sampling: tasty (think: honey-corn crunch puff) AND filling! Very filling. For me, cereal snackage sometimes begets more cereal snackage (you might have experienced this), but in this case, the recommended 3/4-cup serving was puh-lenty. And then some. As a snack for yours truly, I’ll be sticking to the 1/4-cup serving, either on its own or decorating the top of some yogurt for a “sundae”. Mmmmm…

The Fiber One website provides the full nutritional info. One standout item to note is that next-to-last ingredient is sucralose, which I know bothers some of you. Just mentionin’….

For me, this is a cereal that will stay in the rotation. I’m glad I agreed to test it!

The Fiber One PR folks have put together a prize pack for one lucky reader. It consists of a box of Fiber One 80 Calories Honey Squares, a sensor pedometer with USB connector to chart your walking progress, and a neoprene iPod holder with arm strap.

All you have to do to enter is let me know in the comments that you’d like to enter. I know, I’m too easy. I’ll keep the comments open until Saturday, June 18th at midnight and then draw a name.

If you don’t want to wait that long, Fiber One has some coupons on their website.

FTC: I received the same prize pack described above; however, it was offered and accepted with the understanding/expectation that any review would reflect my honest opinions about the product. And it did.

  1. Aaack – don’t pick me! I know I’ll love it. I even like the original:) But cereal is a major trigger for me. When I have it around, it calls to me. I pour it into a cup and nosh away. Refill the cup.

  2. Guess I shouldn’t be greedy since I’ve already won one of your giveaways, but I sure would love to have that pedometer. And I am a cereal eater (every morning for breakfast) so Fiber One would be lucky to get me in their camp. But I’d REALLY love to have that pedometer!!!

  3. Come on, baby….Mama needs a new box of cereal! I SO would love to win this one. I heard about this cereal through Hungry Girl’s website several weeks ago and have been itching to try it ever since. The other winnings sound pretty fantastic, too. Good giveaway, Cammy :)

  4. I love cereal but loving it can sometimes get me in trouble since I find it hard to stop myself from having another bowl, and then another bowl, and then another handful until, surprise, surprise, the box is empty. I love honey flavored stuff but don’t like straight up honey. Now I want some cereal….

  5. Hi Cammy, I’m in Canada, so pretty sure I can’t enter, but wanted to say “hi” and thanks for the info. I’m going to look out for this next time I’m cross border grocery shopping, because it looks GOOOD! Have a good day.

  6. Please don’t enter me in your drawing, but I wanted to add my two cents. I’m sure this cereal tastes great, but I’m one of those avoid-artificial-sweeteners people. In the past, I loved the Fiber One bars, but that was before it dawned on me that they’re really just candy bars with fiber in them… and high fructose corn syrup.

At 80 calories per serving, it’s a great deal. But 1/2 cup of cereal isn’t much at all. 3/4 cup is minimum for me… and I try not to buy cereal very often because I can eat a box of it in a weekend.

  7. Count me in! I love fruits and cereals for breakfast! Thanks! :)

  8. I love the idea of you rating it for “snackability” so sign me up as an entry to win the prize pack. :)

  9. I love healthy cereals – almost too much! 😉 I try not to keep the really good ones in the house… BUT, the hubby may like these too since it has the honey in their to sweeten them up a bit. I would probably eat the whole box! 😉

  10. Serious snackage cravings going on now so yes, enter me in. Thanks for a great giveaway!

  13. Would love to win this – as a diabetic I am always looking for new ways to include fiber. Thanks for considering me.

  16. The 80 calories really peaked my interest since I’m am dieting. Lost 30lbs so I need more fiber in my diet as my digestive system is terrible. I tried it for the 1st time today and LOVED IT!!!
