Eureka!

Uncross your fingers; extinguish those prayer candles; cancel the hard target search—I have found the missing brown sugar canister. You’ll never guess where it was! On the ‘baking shelf’ of my pantry! Of all places!

Messy pantry shelf

Oh, there you are!

In my defense, the bag clippie was blocking my view. Plus, I would have sworn the canister had a blue top, so I was searching with that mindset.

There’s a lesson in here somewhere (besides the one about the importance of organization in the pantry). The answers to our problems might be right in front of us; they just may not look exactly like we thought they would.

Okay, okay. Clearly, I am one step away from assisted living. It’s probably best if I share a couple of interesting links from the week and then totter off to take some Geritol.

With 2011 half gone, many people are looking at the goals they made at the beginning of the year. If you’re one of those and you’re not pleased with your progress, you might want to check out 9 Immediate Tips to Stay Focused on Your Goals over on Dumb Little Man.

Do you remember the new year’s resolutions you set at the beginning of this year? What are they? How are you faring in them right now? If you’re like most people, chances are you’ve long abandoned those goals. Some of you may not even recall what goals you have set. Which is unfortunate, because goal setting works; it has never failed anyone. The only reason why goals would stop working is because the person who has set the goals, i.e. you, chose to give up on them mid-way.

I tend to have too many projects going at once without much progress going on any of them, so they had me at #1 – Focus on 1-3 Goals

In a very timely post, Wise Bread gives us The Produce Worker’s Guide to Choosing Fruits and Vegetables.

Keeping your produce fresh begins at the store. As a former produce stocker, I can tell you that most grocery stores use a variety of tricks to keep profit margins high and the waste to a minimum. If you know what to look for, then you can be sure to pick fruits and veggies that will have a longer shelf life at home.

Mmmm, fruits and vegetables. Yummy! (Except beets and mushrooms–yuk!)

And that’s it for me for the week! Lots to do today, including organizing my pantry. :)

I hope you have a productive and enjoyable weekend. Anything special going on, besides excessive heat?

  1. So, true confession, I am a bit of an obsessive freak over my pantry organization. But I am in a constant battle with a non-organized husband who puts things in the wrong place! Doesn’t he get it!? When my teen leaves, and his snacks no longer need shelf space, a major reorg is in the works. Hope hubby cooperates. After all, I let him make a huge mess in the much bigger garage. Surely he can give me the pantry.

  2. You have a shelf just for baking stuff???? Are you a genius or what!!! I’ve never thought about a baking shelf. I must rearange my pantry. However, if I did spent that much time in the pantry I would still lose my brown sugar. I’ve miss a few weeks of reading blogs and you go and have surgery!!!! So glad you are recovering nicely. I’ve had 2 years of braces and soft food, I’m sooooo sick of it. I went back and read several of your other post and I must say the bean brownies don’t look too good. The idea of putting dark chocolate kisses in the freezer; another genius idea. Have a great weekend.

  3. Oh, I wish I had a real pantry…..
Thanks for the links. You chose two things I really need to read.
I hope you have a great weekend too.
We’re just hanging out… family time. Oh, maybe cleaning up some of the chaos that is 4 years worth of toys.

  4. Too funny, sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees! At least you found it Cammy!

Tomorrow is my birthday and we are headed to Lake Tahoe for the day. I am so looking forward to a day of relaxation and beautiful views.

  5. So funny! Glad you can call off the search!!!! thanks for the links…Have a great weekend Cammy!!!

  6. I am so glad that I am not the only one that does that! A lot of times I have to ask John to look for something because I know I am just not seeing it – and he will pick it out right away. Of course, then I get annoyed at him LOL.

  7. This heat has me becoming quite the grump. Now I know what it must feel like to live in Florida during the summers. We get a break on Sunday, from what I hear. My weekend plans consist of getting ready for a family cookout at my house on Sunday – my siblings and I don’t see each other near enough and we all live in the same vicinity. I’m trying to put a stop to that. Have a good weekend, Cammy!

  8. You are TOO funny. I’m reading that and thinking, yep, its our age, and then you write that paragraph about assisted living and geritol. Too funny!

Weekend plans? Finish a quilt and get ready to leave on my trip!

  9. Cammy – so funny! I can say I have been there too with putting things in the wrong place! 😉

    Great links – thx!

Playing with the grandkids today before they head home. Been a fun but tiring week! 😉 I AM POOPED! Harder then a workout!

  10. catching you on the flip side of a tooo too hot weekend.

I need the links this morning, sure, but the way I feel I may MORE need the Geritol.
