Promises Worth Keeping

If you’ve been reading here a while, you know that body acceptance is still an issue I struggle with from time to time. In fact, it’s turned out to be the hardest part of maintenance for me. When I first committed to the tippy toe way of life, I distinctly remember saying to a friend, “I don’t care about size or shape so much. I care about how I feel.

And that’s still true. Mostly.

For those times when it’s not feeling true, there are a couple of practices that I turn to for help, specifically 1) honoring and treasuring what my body will do, and 2) recognizing that what my body looks like isn’t who I am. I know and believe these truths, but that wisdom gets lost sometimes and I need a reminder.

So when I saw variations of both of those are in the list below, I felt compelled to post it here, both for my own benefit as well as anyone else who might be going through similar struggles. While I’m not guilty of all of the behaviors in it, it never hurts to re-commit to something positive I’m doing.

Here’s wishing us all a peaceful spirit and the strength to accept it. We really ARE worthy, just as we are right now.

  1. I needed to read this today. This past week I have been struggling big time with body image. I don’t know why, but it hasn’t been good. Must be hormones. :D

  2. Perfect timing for me to read this Cammy. I am going to print it off and keep it nearby. I struggle with body image issues – I guess most of us who have yo yo dieted have those issues. Sometimes I feel so awesome about myself and can accept my body with it’s flaws and all. Then other times I feel defeated, fat and frumpy.

    Thanks for sharing this.

  3. This couldn’t have been more appropriate for me today..

    THANK YOU

  4. And the truth of the matter is that someone who has seen you (ME!!) has never noticed those specific things with which you struggle! When we women start with the negative, we sure can let it steamroll in a hurry. Love the list.

  5. I agree – I do pretty well with this most of the time, even though I have been big most of my adult life. So looking good for me is something different than some one else looking at me is going to think! And I taught my girls to cut out the tag if they are worried about what size it is – wear clothes that fit properly and you will look much better!

Right now the scale is going down but my clothes aren’t fitting better so I know it is the lack of exercise time. I need to make that a bigger priority for myself.

  6. Oh, girl, thank you for posting this. I need to read it about once a week. It is disheartening to see how many times I will go down this road.

  7. Thanks for posting this today Cammy, I really need it this week! I struggle with body image issues and need to remind myself constantly. With all the progress I’ve made, this is really the last frontier!

  8. This is wonderful Cammy!!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!!! Hugs. (and I’ll repin…if I can figure out this whole pinterest thing today!! :) ) Have a great Tuesday.

  9. I did not know you struggle with body acceptance, Cammy. Glad you have two solid practices that help you. And thanks for sharing the wonderful list. xo

  10. That’s wonderful!! I’m so glad you shared it.
I think I’ll edit it to share with my daughter. Why let her know about negative possibilities she sure doesn’t have now!!
But imagine having the totally positive affirmations from the time you were little!
    Thanks.
