Saying BYE to 2013

I’ve never pretended to be anything other than cheesy/corny/silly/etc. I’d rather be profound, to tell you the truth, but this is the hand I was dealt and I’m playing it for all it’s worth. For that, you must suffer. :)

A few years ago I started doing yet another a silly little thing around New Year’s Day. As I contemplated, finalized, and implemented the plans around my goals and targets for the year, I would think to myself (or even say out loud), “B-Y-E!”, which is sillyCammy code meaning…

Best year Ever

“You see what you believe”, as Brian Tracy says, and I believe that each and every day has the potential to be a “best” day. Given that, then surely there’s nothing that says I can’t have an entire best year. [Nope, I just checked. Nothing saying that at all. For me or for YOU.]

I’m not sure any of the years I’ve done this was actually my best year ever–I don’t concern myself with trivialities–but at the beginning of the year, this reminder that the potential for best-ness is there helps me set both reasonable goals AND stretchy goals, the kind that used to be dreams. Otherwise, I’d have a shortlist of lose/maintain weight, earn/save money, finish house remodel. All necessary and it would be a pretty good year if I did those things. A really good year, actually. :)

A best year, however, would have a little more oomph to it. A book would get finished. Another 30-day road trip would be undertaken. I’d actually complete some of the pins on my Pinterest boards. LOL

If previous years are any indication, in the days and weeks ahead I’ll catch myself working “the plan” and have one of those fist-pump YESSSS! moments. If you’re anywhere nearby, you’ll likely hear me whisper-shout, B-Y-E!! And then I’ll do the furtive looky-loo to see if anyone heard me. :)

And then March and warmer weather will arrive, and I’ll largely forget about it other than odd moments here and there when something happens to remind me of it. I still work toward the goals; I just skip the joy-making B-Y-E part of it. That’s no fun, so I’m going to do a better of job of keeping that focus this year.

I’ll be exploring goals and such in the weeks ahead (consider yourself warned!), not just for myself, but because one of my greatest wishes is that each of us have our own Best Year Ever and/or have a whole heckuva lot of fun trying!

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year!

  1. I’m like you…..doing a lot of thinking about goals and such, but not yet ready to settle on anything specific. I want them to be unique. Last years main goal of being surprised by something every single day was such a success I’m not sure I can top it.

    • Maybe you can just add to it? Ever since I saw a Brian Tracy video back in the late 80s (e-gads!), I’ve tried to embrace the “something wonderful will happen” philosophy. Life is so much more delightful that way, so I keep including it every year. :)

    • {{{hug}}} You’ve got lots of changes going on. I can certainly understand the feeling of pending suckiness, but if anyone can find the adventure in it all, it’s YOU! Here’s hoping it’s soon!

  2. Like Miz, I needed this, too! I started this year with a guarded attitude, not grateful, and it didn’t feel right. So I logged on to Google Reader for the first time in 6 months and saw B-Y-E. Coincidence? I think not :) I’m so glad you’re still out there to read! ((Cammy)) Happy BYE year!

  3. Honestly – LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love that BYE too! I really love this Cammy: I’ll be exploring goals and such in the weeks ahead (consider yourself warned!), not just for myself, but because one of my greatest wishes is that each of us have our own Best Year Ever and/or have a whole heckuva lot of fun trying!

I want that for all of us too!!!!!

  4. As my friend pointed out to me, last year was a pretty darn good year for me. I am hopeful starting this year that that trend will continue. I have a number of good things happening and if I can just spend the time needed on each one, it will be an unbelievable year.

    BYE!!

  5. I like to think I am all profound and full of wisdom, but really I am just a goober most of the time. 😀

I had a pretty decent year in 2013. Here is to a BYE in 2013!!

  6. I love the B-Y-E so cool. You make me smile and your posts are wonderful. Thank you for that… We are going to have fun this year I can tell.

    Thanks

  7. I like this a lot Cammy! I too think that 2013 will be BYE! Thank you so much for the words of inspiration (((hugs)))
