I’ve never pretended to be anything other than cheesy/corny/silly/etc. I’d rather be profound, to tell you the truth, but this is the hand I was dealt and I’m playing it for all it’s worth. For that, you must suffer.
A few years ago I started doing
yet another a silly little thing around New Year’s Day. As I contemplated, finalized, and implemented the plans around my goals and targets for the year, I would think to myself (or even say out loud), “B-Y-E!”, which is sillyCammy code meaning…
“You see what you believe”, as Brian Tracy says, and I believe that each and every day has the potential to be a “best” day. Given that, then surely there’s nothing that says I can’t have an entire best year. [Nope, I just checked. Nothing saying that at all. For me or for YOU.]
I’m not sure any of the years I’ve done this was actually my best year ever–I don’t concern myself with trivialities–but at the beginning of the year, this reminder that the potential for best-ness is there helps me set both reasonable goals AND stretchy goals, the kind that used to be dreams. Otherwise, I’d have a shortlist of lose/maintain weight, earn/save money, finish house remodel. All necessary and it would be a pretty good year if I did those things. A really good year, actually.
If previous years are any indication, in the days and weeks ahead I’ll catch myself working “the plan” and have one of those fist-pump YESSSS! moments. If you’re anywhere nearby, you’ll likely hear me whisper-shout, B-Y-E!! And then I’ll do the furtive looky-loo to see if anyone heard me.
And then March and warmer weather will arrive, and I’ll largely forget about it other than odd moments here and there when something happens to remind me of it. I still work toward the goals; I just skip the joy-making B-Y-E part of it. That’s no fun, so I’m going to do a better of job of keeping that focus this year.
I’ll be exploring goals and such in the weeks ahead (consider yourself warned!), not just for myself, but because one of my greatest wishes is that each of us have our own Best Year Ever and/or have a whole heckuva lot of fun trying!
Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year!
