Vision Check

there is nothing wrong with the way you look. you need to change the way you see

Vylet3’s image first caught my eye with it’s interesting color composition and typography, and then the words hit me in my heartstrings. They’re not only true for body image, but for a whole host of other life areas as well.

I thought about this quote several times yesterday as I moved about my day. Every time I looked at something (my house, my neighborhood, my poor winter yard, my bank account), I focused on noticing what was right about it. And as it turned out, there was a lot of rightness going on. I just needed to change what I saw. (Still need to to a bit of work on that bank account thing.)

Anyway, since it resonated with me so strongly, I thought I’d share it with you. Just in case you’re in need of a vision check this morning. :)

In other news…

Kale Cube Update

The kale cubes are a resounding success! After this morning’s workout, I had what I’m calling a Strawberry Cheesecake Smoothie, so named because it has cottage cheese in it!

strawberry cheesecake smoothie

I’m sure I didn’t originate this concept, but I sure did enjoy it! :) And based on the ingredients I used, it came in at less than 150 calories with 15 or so grams of protein.

Workout Update

You remember a few weeks ago when I began playing with using the functional eccentric trainer and set my first goal to be three 1-minute sessions? Well, as of last week, I met the goal! I do one set facing forward and then one set facing left and then right. For some reason, I can let go when I’m facing right, but not when I do the other sets. I’m thinking it has something to do with foot placement on the platform. I’ll be working on that.

Workout Buddy CatI was able to make up for my tanked workout last week with a couple of hours of walking over the weekend. I even had a workout buddy for part of my walk.

I went to an area park for one of my walks yesterday, and when I opened my car door to get out, he popped up on the running board! I sat on the curb and petted him for a few minutes–he was so thin!–and even scrounged up a couple of wheat crackers from my glove box, which he turned up his nose at, of course. When I got up to walk, he walked with me. If I slowed down, he would wrap around my ankles a couple of times and then run forward. We did that for a couple hundred yards. I hadn’t checked his “particulars”, but since he was wearing a blue collar (no ID tag!), I named him Bob Harper. :) Eventually he wandered off, which is probably okay, because I might have had a cat roommate if he hadn’t.

That’s all the news from me today! My inbox runneth over, so I’d better get busy! Happy Monday!

  1. Vylet3 is one of my friends! I used to work with her and absolutely adore her. That completely made my day that you used a graphic of hers.

    • What a delightful coincidence! A few years ago, I was reading a how-to book on soap-making and the soapmaker being quoted was Lori, of Finding Radiance! It was all I could do not to jump up and down with “I know her! I know her!” LOL

  2. Bob Harper…*grin*

That graphic was a reality check for me. Had a lot of insecure moments this weekend wondering if I looked OK. That happens when I meet new people. I can think I look fine when I walk out the door, then I get to where I’m going, meet new people, and it all goes to hell.

I was going to buy kale yesterday and forgot! Also, protein powder. I’m all kinds of newbie on that. What kind do you buy?

    • Sorry for the weekend jitters, Lynn. I do understand. (I think I pulled a muscle trying to suck in my squish belly while walking into a meeting the other day.)

As to protein powder, my preferred brand is an unflavored 100% whey isolate I found at GNC (not sure if you have those stores in your area) because it doesn’t have a lot of added ingredients. I’m also still using a product called Pro-Wellness that I reviewed a while back. It’s available at Walgreen’s in various flavors. I prefer unflavored, to which I can then add inmy own flavoring (cocoa powder, vanilla, fruit, etc.), but the Pro-Wellness chocolate and vanilla flavors are pretty tasty, too.

  3. I need to print out that graphic and keep it where I see it A LOT.

I’ve been looking for a smoothie recipe that does not call for bananas or avocados since both of those give me a stomach ache. I will be trying this one for sure. I would like to know the protein powder you use as well. I’ve never purchased any. :)

    • Hi Caron,
Lynn had the same question, so you can check out my reply to her for some specific recommendations. The main consideration for me is to check the sugar levels. Some of the proteins on the market have as much sugar as a candy bar!

  4. OOOhhhhh, Lori isn’t going to be happy with you for letting Bob Harper go without knowing if he had a home. LOL!

    Love the graphic!

    • Bob Harper was big on being petted, but not on being picked up. That and the fact that he had claws meant BH could do what he wanted. If he’d still been there when I finished my walk, I’d have opened the car door and let him in if he wanted. :) Although he was thin, his coat was in good condition, so I’m guessing he has a home. At least that’s what I tell myself. I *might* go back to that park to walk tomorrow. :)

  5. Bob Harper – too funny! I really like that quote – it speaks volumes! Funny how see what we focus on be it negative or positive.

I do like cottage cheese in my smoothies for creaminess and extra protein. Glad your kale cubes worked out.

  6. How did I miss this this morning? That smoothie recipe looks scrumptious! And you know it fits right into my specifications.

I like the graphic too. And Bob Harper. Looks like a cat I used to have. Only my cat was more like one of Bob Harper’s contestants…

  7. I am glad I am not the only one that gets accosted by strays! 😀 At least he had a collar. My mother told John he needed to keep a spare collar around and whenever there was a stray to put the collar on so I wouldn’t think I needed to befriend it LOL

  8. I actually really needed that today, so thank you!

That smoothie looks delicious! And what a lovely kitty…

  9. OK – love that first quote & pinned & tweeted it! :)

Congrats on your workouts! YOU GO!

I thought of Lori the cat whisperer when you were writing about the cat! :)

    Smoothie sounds YUM!

  10. I am TOTALLY naming my next pet Bob Harper (hopefully it isn’t female lol!). I know for a fact I have vision problems – wrote a whole post on Perspective last week because it got put in my face. I’m working on it though – maybe I’ll succeed in straigtening out to 20/20 before I die 😉
