Visitor Info, Road Trip Edition

I’m headed off on a road trip this weekend for a very special wedding. (Not mine!) Lots of driving, from which I need to take breaks now and then. On this trip, YOU can help entertain me on my breaks!

I enjoyed our last round of “Visitor Info” so much (and I think some of you did too!) that I thought we’d play again. You are very interesting people, and I like getting to know you a bit better, especially the quirky stuff! :)

What do you loathe the sound of?
I have a category of sounds I despise: eating noises. This includes ice chomping, chip crunching, gum cracking/popping, slurping, etc. And for some reason, my ears can pick up these sounds across a crowded room. It irritates me more about myself than the offenders.

What was the first concert you went to see?
Three Dog Night at Memorial Stadium in Memphis when I was around 12 or 13. It was the first concert I was allowed to go to with just my friends–no parents allowed!–and I was feeling quite grown up. (I’m now going to have Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog running through my head all morning. Not so bad given some of the alternatives…)

What is the worst song to get stuck in your head?
A music-loving friend was horrified to learn I’d gone on a road trip and hadn’t brought any music with me, so she made me a mix CD for the drive home. I didn’t put it in the player until about the 4-hour mark and subsequently found that the last song on the otherwise awesome CD was Welcome, Christmas from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. (You know the one: “Fah who for-aze! Dah who dor-aze! Welcome Christmas, Come this way!” Over and over and over again.) It’s one of those songs that will NOT get out of my head once I hear it. Still, it makes me smile for a minute when I hear it, because I remember how hard she laughed when I called her from the middle of Texas to protest.

How many e-mails are sitting in your inbox right now?
I was afraid to look, and it turns out there was a good reason for that. I have 391 emails in my inbox right now. I know what I’ll be doing when I’m stuck in my hotel room on my solo nights on this trip!

What is your favorite thing about summer?
Fruits and veggies: tomatoes, bell peppers, watermelon, cantaloupe, and so on and so on. I can’t wait! (Second place goes to more daylight hours!)

Your turn! Please give me something to read on my road trip breaks!

  1. How fun! And how similar we are :)

    -Sound loathing: Swallowing.
-First concert: Roberta Flack (although Three Dog Night’s Greatest Hits was the first vinyl I ever bought)
-Ear worm song: I hate everything Wizard of Oz, so definitely “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
-e-mail backlog: 391?? How in demand are you, GF?? This is where we differ big time. I only have 4.
-Summer favorite: I love hot, humid evenings, sitting outdoors and listening to crickets. If a thunderstorm passes through, all the better.

    Safe travels, my friend!

    • Most of those emails are junky stuff I’ve gotten lazy about deleting daily. :)

I’ve never actually seen all of the Wizard of Oz. When I was a kid, I’d leave the room when the monkeys came on. As an adult, I have fast forward. :)

  2. Cammy, you are the most considerate blogger! Thanks for the short cut.

-Sound loathing: #!-Dogs licking selves. #2-Dogs chewing on selves. #3-noisy eaters.
-First concert: Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty!!
-Ear worm song: Too many to name. I’m sure my former co-workers could tell you some of them. I was a hummer.
    -e-mail backlog: 182
-Summer favorite: Yep, fresh fruits and veggies…mmmmm, peaches. And heat. Yes, I have turned into one of those ‘older folks’ who would rather be too warm than too cold.

    • When I was a kid, my parents dragged us to country concerts with them. I saw all the duos: Conway & Loretta, Porter & Dolly, George & Tammy. I enjoyed the music at the time, but when I got to my teens I was ready to branch out. :)

  3. -Sound loathing: silverware scraping on plates
-First concert: Bernadette Peters, my sister took me to see her for my 16th birthday and we sat front row, its the first “real” concert I remember going to
-Ear worm song: All of them! I often wake up in the middle of the night with songs stuck on my head playing repeatedly during my dreams…annoying
-e-mail backlog: only 1 unread email in my inbox, I’m OCD about cleaning out my inbox and sweeping through, I get stressed when there is too much in there, i’d go bonkers with 391!
-Summer favorite: wearing flip flops! My feet love to be free and not confined in socks, other favorite it the MN state fair, it is so so so fun!!!

  4. Sound loathing: I couldn’t think of anything at first, but I’d have strongly agree with Debby above — animals licking/chewing themselves. I know it’s natural and all that, but it’s just gross!
First concert: We used to go the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo every year and I can remember seeing Charlie Pride back in about 1974. My first “real” concert outside the Rodeo was Foreigner in about 1983. I was a late bloomer. :)
Ear worm song: The ringtone for my oldest daughter is “You are My Sunshine” It tends to stick in my head all day – not a bad thing, but can get a little irritating.
e-mail backlog: Like Robyn, I’m a little OCD. I check my e-mail every day. Of course, a lot of it is junk, but at least I get something!
Summer favorite: ahhhh…. Love the longer days…. gives me more time to be outside after being cooped up in an office all day.

Have fun on your road trip! Stay safe!

  5. These are always so fun!

-Sound loathing: My dog slurp slurp licking his paws – gah, give it a rest, Paco!
-First concert: Journey, when I was 16. Also the first place I ever saw some do drugs in person!
-Ear worm song: Probably would have to be a children’s song considering how often my kids liked to hear them…but I’ve forgotten it and do not want to try and figure out what it was, lol!
-e-mail backlog: Zero at the moment. I keep up with my inbox pretty well, otherwise it makes me crazy to see so many unread messages.
-Summer favorite: Long days, iced tea, watermelon everywhere.

  6. Enjoy your time at the wedding and be safe on the road trip!

-Sound loathing: Slurping and screaming, defiant children not being parented.

-First concert: Rick Springfield with my mom and aunt

-Ear worm song: Where is Santa Claus (Mamacita…donde esta Santa Claus? I only heard it last year and had it in my head for weeks!)

-e-mail backlog: No backlog to speak of. Ask me again in 2 weeks.

-Summer favorite: Grilling out. Everything tastes better on the grill. Too bad it makes you stink though but who knows, to a dude it might be an aphrodisiac!

  7. Hope you have fun Cammy!

-Sound loathing: fingernails down a chalk board
-First concert: Can’t remember but maybe Bread in high school
-Ear worm song: I am useless here…
    -e-mail backlog: TOO many
-Summer favorite: I like warmer weather & warmer runs in the very early morn when I run outside on the weekend

  8. Sound loathing: – hearing someone else vomit…Sometimes, it’s so bad, I become a sympathy puker
-First concert: – The Judds when I was about 14
-Ear worm song: – Don’t worry, be happy
-e-mail backlog: – maybe 10…I am a very aggressive deleter!
-Summer favorite: – Being able to sit on the patio and drink my morning coffee

  9. Loathed sound – the sound of the squeaking brake(s) and non specific rattle in the dashboard of my 4 month old car
First concert – Rush with Golden Earring, 1983
Ear worm song – This is the song that never ends, it goes on and on my friends
    Email – 78 in primary, 12 unread; 20 in secondary, 6 unread
Summer favorite – sitting in the driveway talking to friends late, late into the night

    • “Same Love” was the wedding song playing when K&A walked into the ceremony. Powerful moment with the minister in her vestments between them. (Or so I heard. I was a sobbing puddle by then. :) )

  10. I’m late to the party…Hope you had a great time at the wedding…..LOVE reading your answers, here are mine….

    -Sound loathing:
A smoking colleague’s continual “one cough” hack. I cringe regularly throughout the day when I hear that.
    -First concert:
Trooper…a Canadian band that I saw in the long gone Memorial Arena in Victoria British Columbia
    -Ear worm song:
“Work” or whatever it is called by Ru Paul. OMG…make it stop
    -e-mail backlog:
    Home…not many, work, too many
    -Summer favorite:
Long days. I love being outside in the evening and its still light.

    Have a great day Cammy!
