First ‘Visitor Info’ for 2014

It occurred to me last night that it has been forever since we’ve done a ‘Visitor Info’ post! I’m not sure why, either, because I enjoy getting to know more about you all.

visitori nfo 2If you’re new here, Visitor info is a post in which I ask you to answer a bunch of nosy questions. You can answer them all or choose as few as you want. (You can also ignore them all completely, but I hope you won’t do that!)

So here are this edition’s questions:
* Are you a morning person or a night person?
* What did you want to be when you were little? (How close did you get to doing that?)
* What famous person do other people say you resemble?
* What color is your kitchen? (Disclosure: I have an ulterior motive here as I’m currently evaluating kitchen paint colors.)

My answers:
* Are you a morning person or a night person?
I am most definitely a morning person. It’s about 9PM as I write this, and I’m going to bed shortly after posting it. :) I’ve been up since about 5:30 a.m. (no alarm), and I’ve been go-go-going all day.

* What did you want to be when you were little? (How close did you get to doing that?)
– When I was in the 5th or 6th grade, I decided I wanted to be a forensic pathologist. I don’t think I knew what it was; I just liked the title. LOL I ended up spending my career years in IT/finance at a multinational corporation. It did not require ANY science classes.

* What famous person do other people say you resemble?
No one has said recently, but when I was overweight a couple of strangers said I looked like Roseanne Barr. Nothing wrong with Roseanne Barr, but the only things we had in common were size and hair color.

* What color is your kitchen?
My kitchen is currently skim coat white. :) It was a kind of nondescript beige-ish wall color, but I’m hoping to upgrade to an actual color. This would be an easier decision if I’d already picked out countertops or backsplash. :)

Okay, your turn! I hope you’ll play along!

  1. A morning person, always. Though I can get a second wind sometimes at night!

Before I lost weight everyone said I looked like Ina Garten of the cookbook and TV cooking show fame – Now I have gotten thinner and let my hair go silver – no one says that any more!!

My kitchen has 2 yellow walls and one aqua wall. I like color!! Have fun choosing yours…

  2. This is fun.

    Night person all the way.

I wanted to be the first female president of the United States when I was a child. Yes, I was absolutely serious. I didn’t come close to that, but I do a B.A. in Political Science. But, doing some volunteer stuff in politics cured me of the desire to do anything else in that arena.

Everyone has always said that I look like Diana Rigg.

My kitchen is very open so doesn’t really have any painted walls. Wait. There is that area around the pantry. Umm, it is a dark beige/light tan color (I’m not very good at describing colors). The more predominant color in our kitchen, though, are our counters and island since they are Blue Pearl granite so that is different enough that it gets noticed more than the color on that small area of wall.

A great neutral color that we had at our old house was Kilim Beige, from Sherwin-Williams. It is a wonderful color that goes with lots of things. I love that color and I’m not usually be beige person at all.

    • (My blog is eating my own comments, so apologies if this is posted twice.)

I can see the resemblance to a *much* younger Diana Riggs. :)

Thanks for the tips on the Kilim beige. Most of my rooms are some variation of neutral/beige/taupe (it’s so calming), but I’m thinking I should branch out for the kitchen.

  3. Hi Cammy! I have really been enjoying your blog for the last few months. I guess I am a lurker. 😉

    1. I am a night person, primarily because I can’t seem to make myself go to bed at a reasonable hour. Sometimes I am working late into the night, and at other times I just get caught up in a book or computer game or some other foolishness. I do love mornings, though, when I am up to see them. Occasionally I end up staying up late AND getting up early (thanks to my three dogs), and then I take a nap mid-day when I have the opportunity.

    2. When I was 5, I was sure that I wanted to be a cheerleader. When I was 12, I wanted to be a secretary, like my Mom. When I was 18, I wanted to work in politics and government, and started out majoring in political science at college. By the time that I graduated from college, I had a degree in mass communication, and no idea what I wanted to do, so I took a job in retail. Now I own a small retail store, so I guess it all worked out.

    3. I don’t think anyone has ever told me that I look like anyone famous. I guess I am unique! Or just not very noteworthy-looking.

    4. My kitchen (and the entire rest of my house) is a very dull, boring light beige. It needs a paint job…badly. I would love it if my kitchen were a kind of mossy green. Or perhaps a golden old-world-Italian-stucco sort of look, like the inside of a Johnny Carino’s. Or really anything but beige.

Good luck with painting your kitchen. I will be watching for photos!

    • Thanks for de-lurking, Elaine! I’m so happy you’re enjoying the blog!

I picked up yellow and green color cards at Home Depot yesterday. I’ve actually been considering painting my cabinets some shade of green. Decisions, decisions….

  4. 1. I am a morning person for sure…it is 5:24 am now and I’ve been up almost an hour.
    2. What I always wanted to be when I grew up? A mom and I am I have two kids who are my greatest joy.
    3. I’ve never been told I look like someone famous.
    4. My kitchen is beige/goldish.
Love your comments Cammie. I follow you but usually lurk without responding.

    • Do you know how happy I am when someone delurks to play along? Thank you!

Wow, you ARE an early bird! I go through phases of waking up extra early, but these days it’s more like 5:30-6:00. One day last week I slept until 8 and I felt like I’d slept the day away. :)

  5. Hi Cammy,
During the past few months, I have totally transformed into a morning person – up at 5 for coffee then a run on the treadmill. I totally feel that I have accomplished at least one thing when I run in the morning!

At one early point I wanted to be a dentist – although I’ve always hated going. Often wanted to be a teacher – played school a lot. I now work in higher ed. advising college students and teaching a few classes – love my job!

I’ve never been told I look like anyone famous.

I hate my kitchen. I bought my house a few years ago and the kitchen is mostly yellow walls, blue counter tops (badly peeling cheap stuff), and the attached dining area is blue. I also hate to paint, so… not sure when this might change!

    Thanks for asking :)

    • I like the yellow-blue combination a LOT. I’ve sort of got that going on in my main bath.

My 40-year old beige-ish laminate countertops are peeling too. It’s depressing.

  6. Definitely morn person for me – always has been that way! :)

I wanted to be famous when I was little – I swear & even back then with no crazy stuff like today – have no idea why I picked that statement out.

People have said I look like Bernadette Peters – heck, I will take that – but more when my hair was longer & I died it a more red color.

White kitchen – we lease so that is that.. :)

  7. I’m a night owl all the way, although I’d desperately envy all you morning people (my dear hubby is one of you).

Always wanted to be a veterinarian, but got a scholarship to a business college and ended up working in an office most of my career. I do lots of animal charity work though.

Famous….hmmm. Once was told I looked like that girl Charlene from Designing Women….I’m aging myself with that comment!

We just built a new home and my kitchen is meditative blue from Sherwin Williams. I love it! Our espresso colored cabinets with the blue is a nice combo.

  8. I’ve never been a morning person but I get up early every day (by 5) to workout. I prefer zero conversation at that time of day!!
I wanted to be a DR when I grew up. My Master’s is in Sports Medicine but I’ve never really used it!!
I don’t think I’ve ever been compared to anyone famous!
My kitchen is basic – kind of tan colored.

  9. I used to be a night owl, but gradually transitioned to a morning person.

I have never been told that I look like a famous person – but I get so many people say to me that I look like someone they know. Must be I have a generic face.

My current kitchen is white cabinets with a wall color called Heavy Cream (which I love). The counter is ugly and gross (think 1/4 inch grout lines) and is going to be demolished this weekend for a substitute that I am not quite sure of yet. Gotta love winging it.

Our new kitchen will be light sage green walls with cream cabinets and butcher block countertops, plus dark cork floor. If we ever get in there, that is.

    • After all my bouncing back and forth between yellows, greens, and even oranges yesterday, today I’m back to a neutral wall and (possibly) sage-y green cabinets. Wonder how many times it will change before I actually get to the painting part. LOL

  11. Yeah! You need to do this at least once a month!

    1. I’m more of a mid-day person. I get up early (5:30 a.m.) but I don’t like mornings and I usually go to bed at 8:30 (especially during the winter months!).

    2. When I was 9ish, I remember watching ice skating during the Winter Olympics and really wanting to be an ice skater. Problem was → → no ice rink around our area!

    3. My Granny used to say I look like Mary Tyler Moore. :)

    4. My kitchen walls are soft yellow on the top portion, a white chair rail and dark brown on the lower portion. I just recently painted the oak cabinets white (such a difference!) Guess I’m ahead of the trend as the countertops are sporting the butcher block look (gotta love circa 1980 laminate).

    Have a great weekend!

    • Got it, Judy(stalker), and have added it to my calendar! :)

I like the warmth of real butcher block cabinets and am currently looking at DIY (or more likely, semi-DIY) options with that.

  12. 1. I am a morning person but have a later start time for my job right now and that is really messing with me diet, exercise routine and mood.
    2. I always wanted to own a restaurant but when I was in college and working at a restaurant I realized they worked nights and weekends and let my laziness derail my dream. I ended up getting an English degree and now write proposals.
    3. Back in the 90s people told me I look like Monica Lewinski but I also get Courtney Cox. (I say I look like I ate Courtney Cox.)
    4. Our kitchen is burgundy and tan but all the colors in our house are named after food. I think our kitchen is raisin and oatmeal.

    • I can see how being mistaken for Monica Lewinski could be…awkward, in some circles. Particularly if you happened to be wearing a blue dress. Or smoking a cigar. :)

  13. I’m a morning person, but not like YOU are a morning person. Currently getting up around 7:15, no alarm. My rising time does correspond somewhat with the sun and I get up earlier in the summer. Been staying up later than I want too lately and you can see the Olympic rings burned into my irises.

Can’t remember what I thought as a little kid. We had to do career notebooks in jr. high. I chose psychology and florist. Like the latter would have worked out – I have hay fever. By an indirect route, ended up working in IT for a Fortune 15 company.

No famous comparisons. However, I always seem to be the one strangers came up to for directions, etc. I must look approachable and non-threatening. Re: Roseanne. An overweight friend and I used to get asked if we were sisters. Honestly, there was NO feature between us that was similar except we were both quite overweight. I guess all fat people look alike. Teehee.

My kitchen is the one room that did not get re-done before I retired. Which means it hasn’t changed since the place was built in the early 70’s. Ewww. The walls have what looks like 2 different wallpaper patterns in blue and brown, but if you look closer, one of those is actually this weird wallboard stuff. I think it might need to be drywalled if taken down?? If I win the lottery, the kitchen walls/counters will probably be fairly neutral but the accents will be red and lime. Kerpow! Much brighter than the rest of my house.

    • I’ve kind of wondered about painting my soffits(sp?) red with a neutral main wall. I like pops of color, too!

If I get the hang of this skim-coating thing, I’ll come over and take care of your wallboard. We 70s-era homeowners must stick together.

      • [Frantically but excitedly dusting, vacuuming and changing linens in guest room in prepartion for Cammy’s arrival.]

  14. 1. More and more, I’ve become a morning person. Even on weekends anymore, I don’t generally sleep past 6:30. A couple weeks ago, my boyfriend and I realized we’d gone to bed by 9 pm every single night that week.
    2. As a kid, I wanted to be a dolphin trainer. I’m now a book editor, which is what I wanted to be as a slightly-more-aware-of-my-skills teenager.
    3. I get compared to quite a lot of people, oddly none of whom resemble each other. Most often, I hear Julia Stiles.
    4. My kitchen is a bright french/cerulean blue with white cabinets. It’s cheery!

    • LOL I stayed up until 11 one night this week, and you’d think based on how sloggy I was the next day that I’d pulled an all-nighter.

Book editor/proof reader is one of my later-in-life wishes. I’m actually doing a bit of proofreading now, but I can’t seem to build up the momentum/motivation to develop editing skills. That requires a basic grasp of the English language, doesn’t it? :)

  15. 1. I know this sounds flaky, but sometimes I’m a morning person, and sometimes a night owl. Just depends on what’s going on :)
    2. I wanted to be a teacher…grew up to be a teacher. I got disenchanted with the classroom, now I’m in the library and love it!
    3. I don’t resemble any famous person. I am just ME!
    4. My kitchen is purple and green!! Go for it!

  16. Im such a boring open book!!!
I be a morning misfit who always wanted to be a writer resembles NO ONE and lives with a beige kitchen :-)

  17. I’m not a new reader, but I want to play!
    I’m definitely a morning person
I wanted to be a veterinarian until I realized that I was REALLY bad in science, and I didn’t want to dissect a worm, much less do surgery on dogs and cats!
    * What famous person do other people say you resemble? Oh, everybody says I look like a combination of Meg Ryan and Sandra Bullock HAHAHAHAHAHAH. I amuse myself :)
Its kinda peachish, with a thin film of oldness. Hoping the kitchen will eventually be addressed in this major renovation I’m doing!

  18. I am most definitely a morning person. I rarely need an alarm when I know I need to get up, but set one just in case. I am much more productive first thing in the morning (at least with things about which I have to be self-motivated). Working out in the morning has always worked better for me.

I always wanted to just be a mom. I wanted to stay home and raise my own kids. While I definitely was a mom, and I did stay home with them for a short time, it just wasn’t financially feasible. If I had it to do over again, I would have finished my degree and done something that made a little more money, since I ended up being the breadwinner. But I did okay and I am not complaining. And my kids turned out wonderfully, anyway.

I have a friend who likes to flatter me by telling me I look like Bridgette Bardot (she says I have the blonde bombshell look). I don’t, but that is nice. Someone else once said I looked like Drew Barrymore. I don’t think I look like either one, although I am blonde. We will see what I really look like when I get the rest of the weight off.

My kitchen is beige and stainless steel. I live in a downtown loft that is rather modern — glass and steel, etc. It is somewhat decorated with eggplant and lime green, however.
